DDI's Person-Centered Planning Independent Facilitation Training
The Developmental Disabilities Institute facilitates a one-day training that provides Independent Facilitators with the tools and strategies that result in consumers' successful attainment of a person-centered plan that truly represents their dreams and goals, and an action plan that can make it all happen!
A Person-Centered Planning Independent Facilitator assumes many different roles and responsibilities, which are critical to the success of the person-centered planning process. In addition to what has been mentioned already, the Independent Facilitator must be creative and have access to varied strategies that enable them to:
- Conduct a pre-meeting with the consumer to identify their needs and strengths
- Organize a fun, yet productive meeting
- Record information in an understandable, concise format
- Ask probing, yet sensitive open-ended questions
- Encourage brainstorming, problem-solving and action steps
- Facilitate conflict resolution
- Take direction from the consumer
- Assist in locating resources
- Facilitate activities, but allocate some action steps
- Follow up and document progress
